Lowel and Ricky are Victorian aboriginal footballers who were selected to represent Victoria at the South African National Indigenous Football Carnival. They played a demonstration match against a Mozambique team. Our Club sponsored them. The poverty and very basic schooling conditions in South Africa made a lasting impression.
Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA)
This is a 6 day residential program to enhance the personal development and leadership potential of young people 18-25 years of age. Last year the club sponsored Yrrmal Marika from Arnhem Land to the course at St. Joseph's College.
National Youth Science Forum (NYSF)
The aim is to give a deeper insight into science and its applications for the benefit of all mankind and to develop a greater understanding between young people of all nations. Two students from St. Joseph's College were sponsored by our club last year. One student, Chris Knight, was subsequently invited to attend a Science Convention in Russia with funding support from the Club.
Exchange Student: Fred Christensen
Fred has just returned to Odense, Denmark after a year hosted by six of our club families. He arrived a relatively shy but friendly young man. During his stay he attended Geelong High and several Rotary meetings, played Australian Rules with the Amateurs Football Club and obtained his Bronze life saving medal. He claimed he was returning home a new man.
